Sex Games
"Sex Games", 1997
Mixed media Variable dimensions (small) Private Collection A selection of these games are available for view as a .PDF by contacting the artist here. The Sex Games are made from second-hand magazine pornography laid down as the template for a skill game. The games generally fit in the palm of your hand. To play the games, you roll or shoot tiny steel ball bearings around the surface of the picture to score, by dropping a ball into a hole or directing it to the center of a maze. Initially, the games present themselves and their content in a helpless state. The combination of concentration and dexterity required to score is seldom publicly focused upon this subject matter. The games are difficult to perform quickly, requiring patience and perseverance. In presenting these sexually explicit images in the context of a game, the notion of pornography’s supposed harm is debunked. In the scale, the selection of imagery and the placement of the scoring points, the games are a reminder of how ridiculous sex and sexual objectification can be. Once they are picked up, the games are very hard to put down…until you are "finished." A number of them are in private collections, given to guests as party favors by an anonymous collector in Chicago. |
