The Relics were initially conceived as maquettes for larger unrealized works, but they function just as well as tabletop objects of curiosity. Their scale compares to hand tools, yet these tools do not reveal their function. The surface is a heavy dark beeswax that is not welcoming to the touch. In fact, if wielded by hand, under the pressure and warmth of a human hand, the surface softens and adheres to the handler. This group of objects represents another phase of experimentation with unstable, non-traditional or “non-art” materials. |
